I am back painting outside again this week. This time it is a pub called The Hawkenbury, which is in Hawkenbury (strangely enough!), and I am painting the exterior with a Christmas theme. The owner I met at The Kent County Show a few months back and he has decided, as the pub he owns needs repainting he will dress it up for Christmas and then get it painted back to its more conservative colours in the new year.
Being outside brings you into contact with the general public. Many people that pass make comments, most of which are complimentary and a few stop to talk. It has often intrigued me how long people think that painting a mural will take. Most people over estimate thinking that it will take many weeks and others, like one lady who passed by this morning, who think that painting three sides of a two story pub with a Christmassy Wintery scene featuring Christmas Trees, carol singers, grazing reindeer and a snowman which leads into Santa's Grotto with a full size Father Christmas and all his elves making toys and surrounded by presents while re-painting the name of the pub on a faux log cabin background will only take a couple of days!
